Performance
Dell PowerEdge 6600 and PowerEdge 6650 servers offer you outstanding quad-processor performance, expandability and
availability along with outstanding serviceability. The PowerEdge 6600 incorporates the latest server technology into a 7U
freestanding or rack-mountable chassis, while the PowerEdge 6650 packs similar performance features into a rack-dense
4U form factor.
Designed for business-critical applications that need scalable performance with multi-processors, large on-die cache,
superior memory and robust I/O bandwidth, both servers feature Intel
Champion HE (GC-HE) chipset. The chipset delivers 3.2GB/s of memory bandwidth, peer-to-peer bus architecture and up
to 4.8GB/s of I/O throughput. In addition, the processors offer Hyper-Threading support for improved performance on
your multi-threaded applications.
Furthermore, the PowerEdge 6600 and PowerEdge 6650 are designed to support the next generation of Intel Xeon MP
processors, which allows you to take advantage of advances made by Intel in processing technology.
Availability
The PowerEdge 6600 and PowerEdge 6650 feature memory technology that provides the latest in enterprise-level
availability. For instance, Spare Bank memory, Memory Mirror and Error Correcting Code (ECC) SDRAM memory with support
for ChipKill
technology enable the servers to withstand errors that could crash a system that does not support
this technology.
The PowerEdge 6600 and PowerEdge 6650 servers also support hot-plug redundant power supplies and fans as well as
hot-plug hard drives and PCI slots. This allows you to replace components without powering down the server. Both servers
have dual embedded Gigabit NICs to help maximise I/O throughput or provide fail-over support for increased availability
and reliability.
Expandability
Both systems are designed to meet the growing needs of demanding server environments. They provide up to 32GB of
double data rate (DDR) SDRAM and support four-way memory interleaving for higher SDRAM bandwidth. Consequently,
you can scale your server memory as application demands increase.
Additionally, the PowerEdge 6600 provides up to twelve internal hard drives that offer as much as 1752GB of internal
storage. Similarly, the PowerEdge 6650 provides up to five hard drives with a maximum internal storage capacity of
730GB. Further expandability is provided with eleven I/O slots on the PowerEdge 6600 and eight I/O slots on the
PowerEdge 6650.
Serviceability
The PowerEdge 6600 and PowerEdge 6650 offer unique modular chassis designed to provide day-in, day-out reliability and
serviceability, which can help lower your total cost of ownership (TCO). Both server models feature tool-less access to
internal components and the number of cables inside the servers is minimised for further simplicity. Moreover, the Dell logo
on the bezel changes from a blue to an amber caution light if the system encounters a failure. In addition, to help
accelerate diagnosis and repair of the failure, the LCD panel behind the system bezel displays error codes and text
messages further detailing the problem.
The PowerEdge 6600 and PowerEdge 6650 are state-of-the-art enterprise servers that provide high levels of performance,
help maximise uptime and availability, offer expandability, and provide exceptional data protection.
