Danish Care Epi-Care free Manuel d'utilisation

Introduction

The intended use of the Epi- Care
are not overlooked. The Epi- Care
unconscious movements of the arms during generalised tonic/clonic seizures, also
known as grand mal seizures. When the Epi- Care
it sends an alarm call to a nearby care person, using the built-in GSM or a
connected call system.
®
The Epi- Care
free alarm may be used 24 hours a day, during sleep as well
as awake.
®
The Epi- Care
free alarm is not able to detect seizures without motor activity or
seizures with few jerks, turnings of the head or similar movements. The alarm should
not be used as the only aid for monitoring patients, where human supervision from
a medical point of view is necessary.
The alarm consists of a sensor shaped like a wristwatch and a control unit placed
nearby. The armband is carried on the left or right wrist.
The sensor continuously measures whether the movements in the wrist are of
epileptic or natural origin.
Wireless 2-way communication between the sensor and the control unit ensures that
alarm calls are transmitted to the control unit, which triggers a pager, a nurse call or
similar call system. Also the control unit monitors, whether the sensor is within reach
and whether it needs to be recharged. Additionally the control unit contains a log,
which keeps record of time and date of alarm calls and other relevant information.
The sensor and the control unit have a range of approximately 20 meters indoors,
depending on the condition of the building. The alarm is made for indoor use and is
not appropriate for outdoor use because of the limited range.
The range can be extended by the use of repeaters (extra equipment)
