Portability Without Compromise... The Apogee Mini-Series
The Mini-MP takes the reference quality of the Trak2
and the premium Mini-Me pre-amps to the next level.
It offers an amazing sounding, affordable, portable mic-pre that is
an ideal addition to Apogee conversion systems, mobile studios
and pro recording facilities. Just like its Mini-Series siblings, the
Mini-MP gives you Apogee quality, without compromise, that you
can take anywhere.
You've Got Gain
The Mini-MP features two individual ultra-fast, high gain and low
distortion preamps, each providing an awesome 75 dB of gain.
Adjustment is step-less via a single control knob, so there's
no need for pads or other types of noisy switch mode gain
adjustments. Another great advantage of a step-less gain control is
the ability to adjust levels on the fly. Without pops and other audible
gain-change artifacts. The ultra-linear gain control is also a very
useful tool for those who like to "ride" the gain, making the unit a
perfect solution for both studio and on-location recording.
Additionally, the Mini-MP provides a stereo master output
gain control. This enables the Mini-MP to feed all types of
audio equipment, balanced or unbalanced, from consumer to
professional grade.
Keep the Noise Down
A problem with many mic-pres is the noise and distortion they add
to the signal. Not the Mini-MP. To maintain a crystal clear, ultra-low
distortion audio path, all required switching is accomplished by gas
filled relays and the use of capacitors in the audio chain has been
limited to separating phantom power from the active circuitry only.
This results in a considerable reduction in unwanted distortion and
provides the clean sound you'd expect from a premium pre-amp.
Ins and Outs
The microphone inputs on the Mini-MP can handle levels up to
+18dBu, giving you plenty of headroom. The Mini-MP also offers
auto selected High-Z inputs for instruments and consumer level

equipment. This is a great feature for going direct from guitar, bass
(or direct out from an amp) and keyboard to your recording device.
On the output side, the Mini-MP uses Apogee's newly developed
electronically balanced line drivers which were designed for the
Mini-Dac and simulate true transformer behavior. The result is
perfect symmetry when used in balanced mode (even with an
unsymmetrical load) and no increased distortion when used
unbalanced. This circuitry is an ultra low output impedance, high
current driver, capable of running levels up to 26dBu to the most
complex or low impedance loads, as found in many recording
studios utilizing vintage audio-equipment.
Middle-Side Mode
Another exciting feature of the Mini-MP is the selectable Mid-Side
(M-S) matrix decoder mode. MS is great for recording audio using
an M-S configured mike setup, preserving total mono-compatibility
or for changing the stereo width of existing L-R recorded material.
The Mini-MP can run as two completely individual preamps or in
the Mid-Side mode, where the left channel will be the "Mid" and the
right channel the "Side". In this mode the left output is the "sum"
and the right output the "difference".
Phase, Phantom Power and High Pass filter
The Mini-MP includes a phase switch, phantom power and a
selectable 80Hz High Pass filter with a roll-off of 18dB/oct per
channel. Mini-MP's High Pass filter works wonders for vocals,
eliminating unwanted lows.
Easy on Energy
The Mini-MP has been specially designed for both field and
studio recording, resulting in a premium preamp with low power
consumption. The Mini-MP is not critical about its power-supply
at all; any DC voltage 6-14 Volt at 1 Amp will be sufficient. This
gives the Mini-MP owner total flexibility to select from many battery
and third party power pack options and the freedom to record any
place, anywhere.
