Repairing cards. Never remove the memory card or
disconnect the battery or DC cord while the memory
card access lamp is ashing. Doing so might damage
the card. In the event that the memory card has been
removed while the memory card access lamp was
ashing, or that the battery or DC cord has been
disconnected during recording or the recording
nalization process, a repair veri cation screen will be
displayed the next time the power is switched on in
order to allow errors to be repaired. Select YES to
begin repairing. When repairing is complete,
REPAIR FINISHED will be displayed, and the
camera will switch to the recording paused screen.
Select NO to switch directly to the recording paused
screen without repairing. Repair may take up to 20
minutes or so depending on the places where the
errors occurred on the card. If the repair operation
has failed, SYSTEM ERROR TURN POWER OFF
will be displayed. Memory cards cannot be repaired
with the camera if NO is selected, but can still be
repaired by using the AVCCAM Restorer repair
software (see owners manual, p, 33). Depending on
the nature of the data corruption on the card, it
might not be possible to restore all data completely.
In this case, it's possible that some video clips are lost.
Write protect. SD and SDHC cards have a write
protect tab (a.k.a. lock) that can be set to prevent

writing to the card. It is good practice when you're
done shooting to lock cards before copying media to
a computer. It's also a good idea to label cards and
keep a log. You want to make sure that data is both
copied and backed up before you format a card for
reuse.
Recording modes
e camera records video using the the MPEG-4
AVC/H.264 format, commonly called AVCHD. is
is a standard for the recording and playback high-
de nition video that because of the high-degree of
video compression, it allows a lot of video to be
stored onto relatively storage devices.
e camera can record video in one of several
recording modes (see chart). e PH mode was
designed for professional video production of full-
pixel (1920 x 1080) high de nition images. e
multi-slice feature of the PH mode helps to speed up
processing by nonlinear editors that take advantage of
multi-core CPUs by using parallel processing to
process the images faster.
Camera battery and charger
Charge the camera battery before use. It is
recommended that you keep one extra
battery as a spare (the MassArt kits
come with one extra battery). To
remove the battery push on the
grey battery release button above
the battery position on the back of
the camera while holding on to the
battery.
