The Vario Basic isolation elements require a mechanical link to connect both elements. A commonly
used medium is an optical breadboard.
Static Load Adjustment and Transportation Lock
The top parts of the isolation elements are supported by four steel springs. These springs carry the static
load that has been placed on top. For the initial installation or after load changes these springs have to
be prestressed according to the weight of the setup. This procedure is called „static load adjustment".
The objective of the load adjustment is to elastically support the top part by the springs so that the top
plate of the elements can be moved in any direction.
Fig. 1: Lever for static load adjustment
The state of the static load adjustment is indicated by a peg in a hole at each front of the isolation ele-
ment (see Fig. below). In the initial state (locked mode) or if the prestressing of the springs is too high
with respect to the load, the peg is located at the bottom of the hole (see Fig. 2, left hand side). The peg
is positioned at the top of the hole if the spring is not prestressed enough for the weight (see Fig. below
right hand side). The correct static load adjustment is achieved if the peg is in the middle of the hole (see
Fig. 2, center).
