The Bigger The Imager, The Better The Image
Sony's DSC-R1 incorporates a professional-grade APS-C class image sensor.
At 21.5 x 14.4 mm it's literally twelve times the area of a typical sensor! So you get
superb sensitivity, reduced image noise and an amazing 10.3 megapixels of resolution.
Other cameras with APS-C class sensors must depend on an optical viewfinder for
framing. Thanks to Sony CMOS technology, the R1 is the world's first APS-C class sensor
with the immediacy and accuracy of a Live Preview of the scene. You can see Live
Preview on either the LCD monitor or using the through-the-lens electronic viewfinder.
Take In The Wider View
Because the DSC-R1 needs no optical viewfinder, it also doesn't need the bulky mirror
and pentaprism such viewfinders can require. As a result, Sony is free to integrate a
more compact lens that can capture a tremendous range in field of view. The Carl
