Pause function

The Epi-Care® free can be set into pause mode. During the pause, monitoring is
suspended. The pause function can be used, if the user moves out of range without
taking off the sensor. The control unit is put into pause mode by pressing and holding
the OK button for approximately 5 seconds. The display will show text: PAUSE.
When set on PAUSE before the user leaves the area of reach, no alarm call will be
transmitted. By return, the device will automatically begin monitoring, provided that
the sensor has not run out of power.
After 10 minutes of PAUSE, the control unit automatically returns to monitoring
mode. The pause mode can be cancelled anytime by pressing any key.

Advice for daily use

The Epi-Care ® free is suitable for use during sleep as well as during waken hours. The
sensor must be worn on the left or right wrist during use. In case the sensor is placed
on e.g. a bed table during sleep, the alarm will not work.
Powerful, repetitive movements with the arm the sensor is carried on, can lead to
false alarms. To prevent false alarms, the sensor should be taken off during tooth
brushing or worn on the opposite wrist. Repeated drumming, clapping hands and
similar movements might lead to false alarms.
The sensor is not waterproof.
The sensor may be worn during hand wash, e.g. after toilet
visits, and it can withstand drips of water. However, it must
not be worn during showering, bathing and similar, and must
not be dipped into water.

Limitations in the daily use due to range

The sensor and the control unit communicate with each
other within a range of approximately 20 meters indoors depending on the condition of
the building. The sensor loses contact to the control unit if the user leaves the area of
reach, resulting in disruption of the monitoring. In case the sensor loses contact to the
control unit, the LED will start flashing, signalling that the monitoring does not work.
Additionally the control unit signals an audible sound as well as an alarm to the
connected call system.
When the user moves in range, the control unit and the sensor connects automatically
and the monitoring will start again.
If the user wants to move out of range, use the pause function to avoid an alarm.

Routine checks

The alarm should be checked regularly. Set the Epi-Care® free in monitoring mode
and simulate a tonic/clonic seizure by moving the arm with the sensor rapidly. Make
sure the control unit goes into alarm mode and a call is received at the call system
connected to the Epi-Care® free control unit.
A routine check should be carried out once per month.

Cleaning and storage

The sensor, the watchband and the control unit can be cleaned with a cloth
damped in 96% methylated spirit. The alarm must not be exposed to water or
other fluids and should be treated with care.
The Epi-Care® free must be stored indoors in dry conditions.
