Charging Stages
Boost/Absorption Stage:
After connecting and turning the mains power on, the unit will commence charging. This is
indicated by the illuminated "Charging" LED. The battery charger delivers a Boost current up
to 2.5 amps. When the battery is 80% charged, the charger will automatically switch to the
"float stage". (The battery should now be capable of starting a vehicle.)
Float Stage:
After the Boost/ Absorption stage, the battery charger output current is now reduced. The
battery is slowly brought up to a 95% recharged state and is then constantly maintained
at this level. By monitoring the battery voltage the charger continues to top up the battery,
keeping it charged and ready for use. You can leave the charger connected to the battery
without risk of overcharging.
Disconnecting the charger from a battery:
1. Always turn off and unplug the charger from the mains power supply before making or
breaking connection to the battery.
2. Remove the black negative (-) then the red positive (+) of the battery charger from the
battery or unplug the terminal connector lead.
3. Re-inspect the electrolyte levels in the battery and top up if required (non-maintenance
free and non-sealed battery types only).
