Refrigerator Troubleshooting Guide –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Before calling for service
1. Check that unit is plugged in.
2. Test outlet with another appliance to verify power.
Symptom
Refrigerator does not
operate (no components
run).
Compressor does not run.
Evaporator fan motor does
not run.
Refrigerator does not shut
off.
Refrigerator does not
maintain temperature (all
components run).

Possible cause
Power switch faulty or in OFF position; loose
connection.
Refrigerator not plugged in.
No power to cord.
Temp controller not energizing components.
Temp controller does not operate (display does not
illuminate).
Probe not sensing cut in temperature.
Thermal overload open or defective.
Capacitor and/or relay defective.
Compressor defective.
Defective fan motor.
Controller not sensing cut off temperature.
Controller keeping refrigeration system energized.
Condenser or evaporator coil needs cleaning.
Faulty door gasket.
Excessively high ambient.
Refrigerant leak.
Incorrect refrigerant charge.
Plugged capillary tube.
Inefficient compressor.
Temperature controller defective
Solution
Turn power switch to ON position; check
switch and connections.
Connect plug.
Restore power.
Check controller contact terminals for
power. If controller is not powered from
the power supply, check the power supply and
its input ac voltage level. Check
output terminals (4-5). Replace controller if
needed.
Check the power supply. If there is no power
supply output voltage (12V DC) check the AC
power line (L-N) and check the battery. Restore
power to power supply (battery should
recharge). Replace power supply if needed.
Replace controller and/or probe.
Allow to cool or replace.
Replace as required.
Replace compressor.
Replace fan motor.
Replace controller and/or probe.
Replace controller.
Clean coils as needed.
Replace door gasket.
Maximum recommended ambient is 43 C
(109.4 F)..
Locate and repair leak.
Recover, evacuate and weigh in correct
charge.
Replace capillary tube.
Consult technical service.
Replace temperature controller.
