Installing the torque arm
The tool torque should not exceed the specified torque range of each spe-
cific arm.
Do not use SMC 200 and SMC 300 with a bench stand.
The angle ω is limited to 0° at SMC position L/LA to achieve proper accu-
racy for positioning.
Mounting on a bench
• Find the optimal position for the operator to handle the torque arm.
• Install the torque arm straight in front of the operator or alternatively to the
left or right depending on whether the operator is left or right-handed.
• Firmly tighten the screws in the holder that connects the torque arm to the
bench stand. The bench stand is pre-drilled for fixing to a bench.
• Attach the safety wire (see Spare Parts) to a second point that does not limit
the working area.
Mounting on a ceiling
• Put the mounting point straight above, or as close as possible to, the point
where the torque is applied.
• Make sure that the fixation point can handle the weight and the torque of the
chosen torque arm.
• Attach the safety wire (see Spare Parts) to a second point that does not limit
the working area.
Attaching and balancing the tool when mounted on a bench
Do not use SMC 200 and SMC 300 with a bench stand.
1. Adjust the height of the arm relative to the work piece. It is recommended
to mount the arm attachment at the same height as where the torque is ap-
plied.
2. Attach the tool holder to the tool.
3. Attach the tool holder to the arm. Install the screw and tighten it:
• SMC 12/25 (M6) - 10 Nm
• SMC 50/100 (M8) - 24 Nm
4. Install the set screw on the tool holder and tighten it to 2.5 Nm.
5. Balance the tool with the balancer.
