Welding of plastics:
3.7. Before welding plastic parts, it is necessary to define the material these parts are made of. Usually there is a mark on the
inner side of a part. In most cases plastic parts are made of PP or ABS. For welding use plastic filler rods – rod material must
be the same as material of the panel being repaired.
3.8. Grind out the seam to be welded using V-type end mill cutter. Also carefully grind the needed amount of the filler rods
you will use.
3.9. Mount the catalyst on the torch as described further. Remove the protective cover (3). Put the catalyst and the tip into
the protective cover so that the tip points outside. Mount the protective cover on the torch.
WARNING! Do not weld plastics using torch with open flame.
3.10. Turn the torch on, wait for several seconds until it heats up. Adjust the temperature using gas adjustment lever (8) if
necessary.
3.11. Weld the end of the filler rod to the beginning of the seam to be welded and place the filler perpendicularly to the part
surface. Wait for a few seconds to allow curing of the welded rod end.
3.12. Gradually heat the seam and the filler rod and push the rod into the seam, moving further.
3.13. After the welding is done wait some time while the seam cools down and the filler cures. Then sand the repaired area,
prepare it for painting and apply the paintwork materials.
Soldering
3.14. Mount the catalyst and the soldering tip on the torch as described further. Screw the soldering into the catalyst.
Remove the protective cover (3). Put the catalyst and the tip into the protective cover so that the tip points outside. Mount
the protective cover on the torch.
3.15. Switch on the torch as described above in section 2 and wait while the torch gets heated. Adjust the flame using gas
adjustment lever (8) if necessary.
3.16. Solder in the usual way.
3.17. After the soldering is done switch the torch off as described in cl. 2.4.
4. SAFETY RULES
4.1. The torch contains a flammable gas (butane), please be careful.
4.2. Never expose the torch to heat above 50°C or to prolonged sunlight.
4.3. Keep the torch out of reach of children.
4.4. Ignite the plastic torch away from face, hands, clothes and combustible materials.
4.5. Mount the catalyst and tips only after the torch is completely cooled down.
4.6. Work in a fireproof and well-ventilated area.
4.7. Never use the torch in closed premises containing combustible vapors, flammable liquids or explosive materials.
4.8. Be aware that the actual flame size may be longer than it appears to be. The flame might be invisible at a bright light.
4.9. Torch tips are extremely hot during and after operation, please protect yourself from accidental burns.
4.10. Do not refill, ignite or use the torch near open flames, ovens and combustible materials.
4.11. Do not attempt to dissemble or repair the torch under any circumstances.
4.12. Make sure the torch is completely cooled down before putting it to storage.
5. WARNING
5.1. The gas torch was designed for use with 100% butane. Any other butane-propane mixes or other fuel gases could create
much high temperature and induce "flare up" at the welding head exhaust slots.
5.2. Regulation for transportation of hazardous materials forbids carriage of butane or other flammable gases on passenger
aircrafts. Do not pack this item or any other flammable gases in any checked or carry-on baggage.
Please read this manual carefully before using the torch. Strictly follow the operation instructions to avoid the risk of
abnormal operation of the torch.
