13. You can add the adjuster clip (E) to adjust the direction of the robot if it moves towards the left or right. If the robot moves towards the
right, add the adjuster clip to the left leg to make the robot walk straight. Slide the small part along the robot foot (C) to complete the
calibration process.
14. If the robot moves towards the left, add the adjuster clip (E) to the right leg to make the robot walk straight. Slide the small part along
the robot foot (C) to complete the calibration process.
F. TROUBLESHOOTING
• Make sure each robot foot was inserted into the leg joint holder before the robot leg so that the robot does not wobble. Refer back to
step 5 and 6 to check if the foot and leg were inserted properly into the leg joint.• Add cooking oil or lubricant to the gears inside the
gearbox if the robot isn't moving smoothly.• Check that the end of each robot arm is in front of the robot legs to prevent damaging any
robot parts.• Check if the wires connected in step 4 are secured properly by the peg. Make sure the wires are only connected to like
colors.• Make sure the AAA batteries are inserted in the correct direction. • If the robot is not walking straight, check if the robot's feet
make solid contact with the ground. Slightly bend and adjust the metal wires of the robot feet so that they contact the ground properly on
each step.
G. HOW IT WORKS
The circuit you created by connecting the battery case to the gearbox and robot head allows an electrical current to flow smoothly when
the battery is turned on. The on switch completes the circuit and lets an electrical current flow into the gearbox and robot eyes, bringing
the Wacky Robot to life! This happens because a battery always has two poles; a positive one and a negative one. At the positive pole,
there are very few electrons, while there are a lot of electrons at the negative pole. If the positive and negative poles are connected,
electrons move to correct the imbalance, creating an electrical current. The robot head and gearbox are then able to transform the energy
from the electrical current into movement and light.
H. FUN FACTS
• A team at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology created a sprinting robot inspired by a velociraptor dinosaur. The robot, named
raptor, has two nimble legs and a flexible tail so it can balance itself while running at a top speed of 46 kilometers an hour. That is even
faster than the Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt's top speed!• There are over a million industrial robots in use today! Over half of them
are working hard for people in Japan!• The term 'robot' comes from the Czech word 'Robota', that means 'hard work' or 'forced labor'. A
great name for these human inventions that help humans complete lots of work without getting tired or making a mistake!• Asimo, a
humanoid robot created by Honda, is the most expensive robot and cost $2.5 million to build. It was created as part of Honda's research
and development robotics program.
