The smoke detector requires an alkaline battery

Match terminals on the end(s) of the battery with opposite terminal
connectors on the detector. Be sure to insert the alkaline battery in
the position shown on the detector.

When terminals are properly matched, push battery firmly in until it
snaps and cannot be shaken loose.
The smoke detector will not work until you insert the battery
properly!
