USAGE
Getting Set Up
•
Assess the area the recovery is about to take place and look for potential hazards
before you start the set up / recovery.
•
Check around and under the vehicle and clear the area as much as practical.
•
Situate the recovery vehicle in line with the vehicle needing assistance.
•
Distance between the vehicles should be set 2 – 3 metres less than the length of the
snatch strap.
•
Determine best form of communication, either UHF radio, horn signals or a hands-
free mobile phone. It is recommended the vehicle needing assistance manage the
process and give direction to the recovery vehicle's driver.
Connecting the Snatch Strap
•
Inspect the snatch strap and ensure it is free of defects. If defects are present the strap
could break, DO NOT USE.
•
Check the strap's rating and if it is suitable for the recovery.
•
Lay the strap between the vehicles ensuring 2 – 3m of slack is available.
•
Ensure the strap is not twisted, knotted or kinked.
•
Attach Strap to a RATED vehicle recovery point. It should be noted that often factory
fitted tow hooks are not rated and should not be used as recovery points.
•
When connecting the snatch strap to the vehicles avoid sharp edges and hot surfaces.
•
Attach a recovery damper blanket approx. half way
along the snatch strap.
•
If using a bow shackle to connect to the vehicle
ensure it is a RATED SHACKLE. Look for WWL or SWL
markings and is adequate for the recovery
being conducted.
•
NEVER CONNECT A SNATCH STRAP TO
A TOW BALL OR UNRATED POINT.
