Basic rules for the Pawn
The Pawn can only move forward, never backward.
It captures its opponent in a diagonal move.
• The Pawn is the least powerful of the chessmen but Pawns become
more valuable as the end of the game approaches. The reason of this
appreciation in value is that whenever it reaches the last rank, it is
removed and replaced with either a Queen, Rook, Bishop or a Knight. This
substitution is compulsory, and it is called pawn promotion.
• The Pawn can move forward one or two squares on the first move only.
However, after its first move is completed, it is only allowed to move
forward one square per play.
• The Pawn captures an opponents chessman on a diagonal move but
cannot move forward or capture an opponent if it is directly in front of it
on the square beside it.
• en passant is when a Pawn captures an opponent's Pawn by taking
one step diagonally to the right or left onto the square occupied by the
opponent. This can only happen while the Pawn that is to be captured is
on its (original) second rank position (see En Passant).
• Pawn promotion happens when a Pawn reaches the last rank furthest
from its start. It is promoted, removed and replaced with either a Queen,
a Rook, a Bishop or a Knight but never the King.

Pawn Promotion
When a Pawn reaches the last row of the board on the opponent's side it
will change into a knight and glitters. At this time, tap " " or " " to get to
the icon that that you wish to promote your Pawn to. It can be promoted
to either a Queen, a Rook, a Bishop or a Knight but never the King.
Tap the chosen icon so that it glimmers and promotes the Pawn.
Castling
This is a special move available to players to enable them to get their King
into a reasonably safe position. It is counted as a single move, although it
involves two pieces - the King and one of his Rooks.
In the game you have one chance to move the King
two squares to the right or left towards an available
Rook provided it falls within the restrictions listed
below.
• SHorT-CaSTlInG (King-side): happens when the
King and Rook have never been moved and are not
under threat by the opponent's piece. Tap the King
