Chapter IV Maintenance and Troubleshooting of Optical Power Meters
1 Precautions for use
The reasonable use and storage of the instrument can maintain its performance indicators for a long
time and extend its service life.
1.1 Precautions for powering instrument
The instrument is powered by a built-in rechargeable battery, dry battery or external power adapter. The
external power adapter interface is a Micro-USB interface. The instrument can also be powered by dry
battery, but please remove the dry battery when the instrument is not in use for a long time.
If the product is used for a long time, it is recommended to use an external power adapter to power the
instrument. The battery is a consumable item and is not covered by the warranty.
a) Use rechargeable battery
1) Do not leave the battery or the instrument with the battery in a very hot environment, such as in a
vehicle.
2) The battery stored for more than half a year should be charged and discharged on a regular basis.
3) The battery should be protected from complete discharge, which can cause the battery to
malfunction.
4) Due to the self-discharge and current leakage of the battery, even if the instrument is turned off, the
battery will be discharged completely after a period of time.
b) Low voltage alarm
If only the internal rechargeable battery is used to supply power and battery symbol in the upper right
corner of the instrument is blank, it indicates that the capacity of the rechargeable battery is extremely
low, and the internal voltage of the instrument is unstable, resulting in inaccurate power test. In addition,
the instrument can only work for about 10 minutes before automatic shutdown. Users are advised not to
use the instrument at this time and should charge or install a dry battery in time.
c) Charge the battery inside the instrument
The internal charging circuit of the instrument can be charged when the power adapter is used. The
charging mode and charging time are automatically set.
1) Check the input AC voltage of the power adapter before use.
2) Connect the input of the power adapter to the AC power supply.
3) The output of the power adapter is connected to the input of the instrument power supply, and the
battery is automatically charged.
1.2 Precautions for test
In order to ensure the accuracy of the performance test, the fiber patch cord and optical power test input
port type are required to be consistent and tight, and the fiber end face should be clean before
connection.
2 Maintenance
The 2498C/D is a precision instrument with high reliability and complex maintenance and calibration.
a) When the instrument has a malfunction, it should be sent back to the Company for repair;
b) If the deviation of the test value is found to be large or the output power value of the optical source is
too small, check whether the input and output ports are contaminated. If so, wipe it with absorbent cotton
and alcohol. The calibration period of this instrument is one year. Table 4-1 lists the common faults and
troubleshooting methods.
