Installing the BE6000S
Cisco recommends that you install the BE6000S in a standard 19" rack or enclosure. Extended
mounting brackets required for a 23" equipment rack are available for purchase separately, if
required.
Step 1. Unpack the BE6000S and locate the rack mounting bracket kit.
Step 2. Using the illustrations inside the front cover as a guide, choose the appropriate
mounting option for your rack: A Front, B Center Front, C Back, D Center Back.
Step 3. Using a number 2 Phillips screwdriver, attach the mounting brackets as illustrated
using the 8 bracket screws provided. Do not over tighten screws.
Step 4. Select a suitable location in the rack for the product, such that:
a. Air flow is unrestricted. Note: Cool air is drawn from the side and rear vents. Warm
air is expelled from vents in the front panel.
b. There is space above and below the product to allow for cooling air circulation.
c. The rack is loaded with the heaviest items at the bottom to ensure stability.
d. The mounting brackets align correctly with the rack mounting points.

loosely fit the lower screws first, then rest the brackets on them while fitting the
upper screws. Ensure that all fastenings are tightened and that the product is held
level.
Step 6. Ensure that the product is properly grounded. If necessary, crimp the ground
bonding connector (provided) to a suitable ground circuit and fasten to the ground
connector (21) using the screws and washers provided.
Step 7. Connect Ethernet Port GE0/0 (19) to the local data network.
Step 8. [Optional] Connect Public Telephone services to the ports in HWIC slot 0 (12) or
HWIC slot 1 (11).
Step 9. Connect a monitor and keyboard to the the VGA video (25) and USB (29) ports.
Step 10. Ensure that the power switch (5) is on the OFF position.
