Universal Bracket
Instruction Manual
Thank you for purchasing the Nikon Universal Bracket. This attachment unit connects Nikon
scopes to still and video cameras, enabling you to record images observed using a Nikon
Fieldscope (with eyepiece lens attached) or Spotting Scope. Before using this product, thoroughly
read its accompanying safety and operation precautions and instructions. Keep this manual within
reach for easy reference.
OPERATION PRECAUTIONS
• The total weight of this Universal Bracket set is approximately 1kg. To minimize the effects of camera
shake, and protect the Universal Bracket set from damage, be sure to use a tripod that is sufficiently
sturdy to support the weight of the product.
• Be sure to detach the camera and scope prior to transporting the unit. Failure to do so could result in
damage to your equipment. Carry all items separately.
• When using a camera with a zoom lens, exercise caution when setting the zoom so that the lens does
not come in contact with the scope or other parts of the Universal Bracket.
• While assembling the unit, attach each knob and ring correctly and securely so that they do not
accidentally detach during use.
• Nikon's Universal Bracket is designed for use with cameras and scopes which incorporate a tripod
socket. Cameras and scopes without the socket cannot be joined using the Universal Bracket.
1. Set the scope mount arm 1 in proper mount position, and fix it by turning scope mount arm lock
knob 5 clockwise.
2. Attach the Universal Bracket to a tripod by screwing the tripod's mount screw into the tripod mount
6.
3. Screw the tripod head quick shoe !q into the camera's tripod socket, mount the camera on the free-
turn tripod head 9, then fix its position using the shoe lock lever !w.
4. To mount a Nikon scope or Night Search to the Bracket's scope mount 2, turn the scope mount lock
knob 3 counterclockwise to loosen. This allows the scope mount to rotate. Screw the scope mount
into the scope's tripod socket securely, then turn the scope mount lock knob clockwise to fix the
scope's position.
5. Adjust the scope's direction using the scope mount lock knob 3, and adjust its rear and front position
with the scope positioning knob 4.
6. Adjust the direction in which the camera is pointed by turning the tripod head lock knob !p
counterclockwise to loosen. You can move the camera horizontally using the R-L knob 7, and adjust
its vertical position with the elevation knob 8. The camera's vertical position can be adjusted by
turning the tripod head mount plate knob !r counterclockwise to loosen, then changing the position of
the tripod head mount plate !e. Another way to change the vertical position of the camera is by
turning the scope mount arm lock knob 5 counterclockwise to loosen, then changing the position of
the scope mount arm 1.
Repeat steps 5 and 6 until the camera and scope are each in the desired position. Be sure to position
the camera and scope so that the camera lens is as close as possible to the eyepiece lens of the
scope.
Notes
• Be sure to position the camera and scope so that the camera lens does not come in contact with the
scope at maximum zoom.
• The image may appear to be rounded and framed in black. This is the result of the attachment of the
camera to the scope. It is not a malfunction.
Tips
Attachment
• To facilitate resetting at a later time, we recommend that you mark the position of each moving part with
both the camera and scope attached.
Shooting
• After completing attachment of the camera and scope, we recommend that you set the camera's focus
mode to "infinity", and focus on the desired object using the scope's focusing ring.
• When using a still camera, perform shooting using either the self-timer or remote control. Due to the
high magnification factor, pressing the camera's shutter release button by hand will cause camera
shake.
