Making Sushi
Ingredients
Sushi rice, rice vinegar (or a mixture of vinegar, sugar and salt), nori
leaves (dried and roasted algae / seaweed) for encasing the sushi
roll, ingredients for the sushi fi lling (e.g. fresh fi sh, seafood, veg-
etables, tofu, surimi (imitation crab meat), omelette strips), wasabi
(Japanese hot green horseradish paste), gari (pickled sweet-and-
sour ginger), soya sauce
In addition, a very sharp knife and a little cooking oil is required.
Preparation
1. Give the sushi rice a good rinse and boil it in a pan with water or

Cover the rice and allow it to cool.
2. Cut the ingredients you want for the sushi fi lling lengthways into
fi ne strips.
3. Prepare a bowl containing cold water or a damp cloth in order
to moisten your hands and the knife before making contact with
the sticky rice.

Using the Sushi Maker
Our recommendation: Serve sushi on a board with wasabi, soya
sauce and gari.
Disposal
Dispose of the packaging in an environmentally friendly
manner and take it to a recycling centre.
All rights reserved.
1. Open the sushi mould, place it on its
feet and hook the two halves of the
mould into each other. Coat the in-
sides with a little cooking oil.
2. Wet your fi ngers with water so that
the sushi rice does not stick to them.
Fill the two halves of the mould
loosely with sushi rice. Leave a gap
for the plunger on the threaded end
of the mould (see step 5).
3. Use the plunger to press a hollow
trough into the rice in each half.
4. If you wish, coat the troughs with a
little wasabi and place in the ingredi-
ents for the sushi fi lling.
5. Insert the thread of the plunger into
the thread of one half of the mould.
6. Close up the two halves of the mould
and fasten shut with the clips.
7. Place the lid on the open end of the
mould and twist it on so that it can-
not be removed. NOTE: The two
round locking lugs on the mould
must be guided into the correspond-
ing grooves in the lid.
8. Twist the plunger out of the thread,
then gently press the sushi roll in the
mould.
9. Cut one nori leaf to the width of the
sushi roll and spread it out with the
smooth side facing down.
10. Twist the lid and remove it from the
mould.
11. Press the sushi roll out of the mould
using the plunger. As you do this,
place the roll on the nori leaf.
12. Wrap the nori leaf around the sushi
roll, moisten it with water at the end
so that it sticks to the roll.
13. Allow the sushi roll to rest in the
fridge for approx. 15 minutes. The
nori leaf should soften slightly.
14. Moisten the blade of a sharp knife
and cut the sushi roll into slices.
Moisten the blade before each cut
so that it can cut through without
squashing the sushi.
