Activating the Sensor
After a period of extended storage without use, you may need to run an
ASC (Automatic Sensor Clean) and re-activate the sensor. This is not always
required but it is best to do so.
PLEASE NOTE: This process does NOT calibrate the breathalyser.
Your AlcoSense is calibrated under strict controls during manufacture,
using the gold standard in Police Grade breath alcohol simulators.
You will need an alcoholic liquid of 3-5%Vol. You can easily make this by
mixing a solution of 1/3 wine and 2/3 tap water in a small glass.
1) Following the diagram on the next page, turn the AlcoSense over so that
the back of the unit is facing you. On the bottom right hand corner of the
AlcoSense breathalyser you will find a small cap which you can remove.
2) Dip this cap in your pre-prepared alcohol of 3-5‰ Volume, ensuring that
the sponge section is now wet. Wipe off any excess liquid.
3) Insert the cap in to the ventilation hole on the back of the breathalyser
(do not press the cap in more than ½ way otherwise it may be difficult to
remove it).
4) urn the AlcoSense over so that it is facing you and slide the unit open as
if you were to perform a breath test. The AlcoSense will count down from
PH19 to PH0 and then display "BLOW" on the screen. At this point press
and hold down the "SET" key until the screen changes to display either
"LO" or gives a reading. DO NOT BLOW INTO THE UNIT.
