Operation of Heater
Apogee SL-510 and SL-610 pyrgeometers have an internal heater to allow for sensor heating during precipitation
events or under conditions of dew and frost deposition. The heater is designed to keep the water (liquid and
frozen) off the silicon filter and does not need to be powered in order to make measurements of longwave
radiation. However, if the filter has water on the surface, errors can result. Continuously powering the heater
under conditions that do not require heating will not damage the sensor or influence measurements.
