D. ASSEMBLY
1. Take the gear box. Put the link arm in place as shown, with its pin in the hole on
the gear box case and the pin on the gear-box cam through its central slot.
2. Holding the link arm together with the gear box, slot the gear box into the rear
body, with the link arm on the opposite side to the switch.
3. Secure the gear box with two screws.
4. Push the fan onto the spindle of the motor (with the flat face nearest the motor).
5. Place the motor into its slot in the rear body, making sure that the worm gear inter-
locks with the teeth on the lower gear wheel.

8. Push the bubble ring into the end of the long arm.

9. Put the long arm into place, making sure the pin at the top goes into the slot at the
end of the link arm, and that the pivot sits in its slot. Tip: hold the short extension of
the arm vertical, push the pin into the link arm, then rotate the arm to fit the pivot into
place.
10. Rest the short arm in place, making sure it fits into its bearing slot. Now lubricate
all the gears and joints. You can use a small amount of cooking oil for this.

11. Now carefully slide the front body over the top of the inner workings, making sure
that the arm bearings are in place but can still move.

6. Push the red wire from the motor and the spare
red wire from the switch into the terminal hole near
the switch and secure them with a terminal cap.
7. Push the black wire from the motor and the
black wire from the battery case into the other
terminal hole and secure them with a terminal cap.

12. Turn the body over. Secure the two
halves together with four screws (two of
them inside the battery case).

13. Insert 4 x AA batteries into the battery
case.
14. Put the battery cover on the battery case
and secure with three screws. Switch on the
motor. Check that the long arm moves up
and down, and that air blows out of the
robotʼs mouth. Switch off again. Refer to the
troubleshooting guide below if the arm or
fan are not working properly.

15. Slot the Bubble Robot body into the
base. Secure the body to the base with two
large head screws.
