5. Turn over the handle and place the collar (H) over the shaft next to the hub and secure it in place with two screws (J).
6. Place the grip (C) over the trigger and secure it to the handle with two screws.
7. Add the three gripper arms (E). The long side of each gripper clips to the hub and the short side clips to the end cap. Well done! Your
Octopus gripper is ready to work!
D. OPERATION
8. Hold the grip in your palm and gently pull the trigger with your fingers. The gripper arms will close together like the arms of an octopus!
Try picking up lots of different objects around your home. Try small objects, large objects, objects with different shapes, such as small
balls, small apples, empty cans and cubes, firm objects and soft, delicate objects. To avoid overload of gripper, please be careful that do
not grip heavy weight's objects. And please store the Octopus Claw on a flat surface when not in use to avoid bending the gripper arms.
E. HOW IT WORKS
When you pull the trigger, the end cap pulls on the inside legs of the gripper arms. Because the outside legs are held by the hub, the
arms bend inwards, making them move together to grip an object. The arms work like springs, so when you release the trigger, they want
to go back to their original shape. This opens the gripper and releases the object.
F. FUN FACTS
• Industrial robots have grippers like your Octopus gripper. Arm robots working in factories use grippers to pick up and move objects.
• Robot grippers can be pneumatic (air powered), hydraulic (liquid powered) or powered by electric motors.
• Some robot grippers have three fingers like the Octopus gripper. Three fingers keep an object stable when it is being held in the gripper.
• Some robots, especially human-like android robots, have grippers that look like human hands.
• Robot grippers contain touch sensors so that the robot doesn't accidentally crush a delicate object that it's picking up.
• Giant grapples are used to pick up scrap metal, including old cars, and heavy tree trunks.
• A real-life octopus has eight long arms covered with suckers.
• If an octopus loses an arm, the arm grows back again!
