You can verify that the M4106nx is
communicating on the CMnet by making sure
the CMnet transmit and receive LEDs are
active (see Figure 5 for location).

Communicating with the
Workstation
You can connect a workstation or portable
computer directly to the M4106nx module
using an APT and the module's Access Port
(see Figure 6). This type of connection can be
used to troubleshoot the module or transfer
memory. If you are using an ARC156 CMnet,
you can receive colors while connected to a
module's Access port if a gateway module is
on the CMnet. You cannot receive alarms
through the Access port, however.

The Access Port's baud rate is determined by
the baud rate DIP switch on the module.
1. Connect the computer's serial port to the
APT's EIA-232 port using a standard
straight-through serial cable.
2. Set the APT's Mode Select switch.
• On an ARC156 CMnet, use the TTL
setting.
• On a legacy CMnet, use the 485 setting.
3. Connect the APT's Access Port to the
module's Access Port.
4. In SuperVision, define the connection type
using Table 1.

Inputs

The M4106nx module has ten universal
inputs to accept the types of signals listed
below. Refer to Table 2 for information about
wire length, gauge, and shielding.
• Thermistor: Precon type 2 (10kohm at
77°F). Input voltages should range
between 0.489V and 3.825V for
thermistors.
• 0 to 5VDC: The output impedance of a 0
to 5VDC source must not exceed
10kohms. The input impedance of the
M4106nx is approximately 1Mohm.
• 0 to 20mA: The input resistance on the
"A" input is 250 Ohms. The "B" terminal
supplies a voltage source to power the
4-20mA transducer. The "B" terminal is
capable of supplying 18 to 24VDC, but
