WiFi remote access how does it work?
The App settings refer to WiFi setup and HCS will supply its customers only with a detailed
instruction manual including screen shots demonstrating camera functions. Each camera is
supplied with standard instructions, but Hidden Camera Surveillance offers it's customers a
personally drafted user manual including actual screen shots for a much easier setup
experience.
To use WiFi remote access, the dummy wifi smoke alarm spy camera must be within range of
a WiFi network and the authorised user must know the WiFi password. The router must be set
to 2.4Ghz frequency as cameras of this nature do NOT support the 5Ghz range. Often when
looking at phone WiFi settings, the router may provide options for both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz so
select 2.4Ghz.
Our App will prompt you to select your router and WiFi network password. The WiFi Smoke
Alarm Hidden Camera will reboot which takes a minute or two so the next time the authorised
user logs into the App, it will be live view camera access. The authorised user could potentially
be anywhere in the world, perhaps in another WiFi zone or simply connect via the 3/4G mobile
network. The smoke alarm spy camera must stay in WiFi range of the router with a decent
signal to remote access the device.
It's important to understand, due to network speed, remote camera login can at times be slow
resulting in staggered live viewing or slow recording playback. In recording playback mode, if
the network is slow, this can cause live view to drop out meaning logging in again. Please
note this isn't a camera fault. It's common with wireless access but rest assured, if using an
SD memory card, the device itself has recorded in real time so nothing is lost. One can always
come back to the memory card and replay on PC or MAC. The other option is to download any
desired recording to your phone or PC and once downloaded, the playback will be in real time
and saved.
Can I place the Spy Smoke Detector camera in a non WiFi location?
If you prefer to relocate the camera a NO WiFi signal zone, that can be done. However, it's
important to initially set the camera within a WiFi zone because all smoke detector spy camera
settings, including motion detection etc, are App controlled.
Once the camera settings are saved and you're sure it's recording upon motion (test it first)
don't switch the Smoke Detector Spy Camera off. Leave the camera on and relocate to another
non-WiFi location. Should you switch the camera off, it will be attempting to locate WiFi again.
Once the spy cam is moved away from a WiFi zone, the App will be of no further use at that
time and you won't have any further remote camera access. The smoke alarm hidden camera
will on the other hand still record to the internal memory card upon detecting motion, so
recordings can be later replayed on PC once the SD card is removed, or the camera is returned
to the initial WiFi location.
Can other people see the Smoke Detector Hidden Camera?
It's a question often asked and rightly so. In short, the answer is no. When entering a shop,
home, or office, often your phone will depict all WiFi routers within range. Other than your
personal router, all others are private, and password protected.
In this regard, when the camera is switched on, after a minute or so, you will see a UID number
appear in the mobile phone WiFi settings. The UID does NOT refer to a camera or anything
of that nature. It's simply a series of letters and numbers which won't mean anything to anyone
other than you.
For example, the UID would look like YiEye-27593t49 but to any other person who just
happens to see it, for all intents and purposes the UID number could be a neighbour's router.
Clicking on the UID won't do anything for an unauthorised person. The authorised user requires
the correct App, user name and password etc so it won't arouse suspicion nor allow remote
access to anyone unauthorised.
