3. PING the Brother machine:
a. On the computer, click START -> RUN
b. Erase anything in the open box and type: COMMAND
c. Click OK. A command prompt window will open.
d. Type: PING xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (Where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the Brother machine's IP
Address noted in PART 7-1.)
e. Press ENTER on your keyboard. The computer will ping, or try to communicate with the
Brother machine. When completed, you will receive the PING STATISTICS.
f.
If the number of packets sent DOES NOT equal the number of packets received, then
there is a communication problem between the Brother machine and the Computer.
Attempt to reestablish communication by completing the following steps:
i.
Set boot method to Auto. This is necessary so that the Brother machine can
attempt to obtain a valid IP address from your router or access point.
ii.
On the Brother machine press MENU or MENU/SET.
iii.
f3) Scroll with the up or down arrow to LAN and press OK or MENU/SET.
iv.
f4) Scroll with the up or down arrow to TCP/IP (WLAN) and press OK or
MENU/SET.
v.
f5) Scroll with the up or down arrow to BOOT METHOD and press OK or
MENU/SET.
vi.
f6) Scroll with the up or down arrow to AUTO and press MENU/SET or OK. The
LCD should display ACCEPTED for a few seconds. Then press STOP/EXIT to
return to the main LCD screen.
vii.
Turn the MFC off by unplugging the power cable, wait approximately 30
seconds, re-plug the power cable to turn MFC back on. Complete PART 7 again.
g. If the number of packets sent equals the number of packets received, then this
indicates there is communication between the Brother machine and the Computer.
Continue to the next step.
h. On the command prompt line type: CONTROL PRINTERS. Press ENTER on your
keyboard. The Printers folder will open.
i.
Right click on the Brother driver and left click on PROPERTIES. The Brother printer
driver properties screen will now appear.
4. For WINDOWS 98/ME: Click the DETAILS tab:
a. Under PRINT TO THE FOLLOWING PORT, you will see your current communication
port listed. You should have the Brother LPR Port selected. By default the Port
name is BLP1, however it could be a different name. It must start with BLP. If this
port is not listed, click the dropdown arrow and attempt to locate the port. If the
port is not present, continue to step 4-l. If it is present, continue to the next step.
b. Click the PORT SETTINGS button. The Port Settings dialog box will open.
c. Compare the IP Address and node name listed to the information on the Network
Configuration Report printed in PART 7-1. If the IP address or Node Name is
different continue to the next step. If the IP address or node name is not different
this issue is likely caused by other connectivity problems or machine errors.
Continue to PART 8 to reinstall the drivers.
d. Click the BROWSE button. Locate your Brother device in the list. Make sure the
node name and IP address listed match the information from the Network
Configuration sheet you printed in PART 7- step 1.
