Suggested retail price: $2,600 base unit. (Complete specifications information for this unit, including
pricing for accessories and options, is available through bliQ, at www.buyerslab.com/bliq.)
Testing method: The unit's copy/print capabilities were tested using a Windows 2000 workstation with
a crossover cable, the Ricoh controller and the PCL 6 print driver (version 1.00). The crossover cable
eliminates network traffic, allowing for optimal productivity of the unit.
Comparative Analysis
Designed to meet the needs of the small office, the Ricoh Aficio 1515MF offers standard
copy, print, scan and fax functionality. Featuring 192 MB of RAM that is shared between
the copier and printer, this 15-page-per-minute (ppm) unit demonstrated outstanding
image quality in all areas evaluated, very good overall print productivity and competitive
copy productivity. The Aficio 1515MF's job stream efficiency was the highest of similarly
equipped short- and long-edge feed models tested to date. In addition, the unit's print effi-
ciency was among the highest for the group in simplex mode, and its copy efficiency was
among the highest in 1:1 mode. The unit's first-print times were also among the fastest in
the group for two of the four file types tested.
The Aficio 1515MF offers an exceptional price point that is among the lowest of competi-
tive models available that may or may not include scanning as standard. Although the unit
only accommodates paper sizes up to 8½" × 14", Ricoh also offers the Aficio 2015, which
can accommodate paper sizes up to 11" × 17". The Aficio 1515MF also offers a low over-
all total cost of ownership (TCO), according to Ricoh. For instance, the unit offers a dual-
component consumable design in which the toner, with a rated yield of 7,000 impressions,
is housed separately from the developer, which has a rated yield of 45,000 impressions. As
a result, the toner and developer can each be replaced as needed.
