Quick Start Guide – MOTOROLA DEFY™ XT
Using Contacts
• To view your contacts, from the Home screen, tap the Phone icon. Tap the Contacts tab.
• To create a new contact, from the Home screen tap the Phone icon. Tap the Contacts
tab. Tap the Menu key. Tap New contact. Tap the desired place you would like to save the
contact to, i.e. Phone. To add an image to your contact, tap the thumbnail icon. Tap the
desired option, i.e. Select photo from Gallery. Tap the desired folder, i.e. Camera. Tap the
desired photo and drag, pinch and zoom the orange frame to the selection you wish to
set the thumbnail contact image to. Once finished, tap Save. Tap the Given name field
and enter the contact's first name. Tap Next on the virtual keyboard. In the Family name
field enter the contact's last name. Tap Next on the virtual keyboard. Tap the Home button
under Phone and amend the label, i.e. Mobile - if you want to add the contact's mobile
phone number. In the Phone field, enter the contact's mobile phone number. Tap Next on
the virtual keyboard. Tap the Home button under Email and amend the label, i.e. Work – if
you want to add the contact's work email address. In the Email field, enter the contact's
email address. Tap Postal address if you would like to add a postal address. Tap the Home
button under Postal address and amend the label, i.e. Work – if you want to add the
contact's work postal address. In the Street field, enter the contact's street address. Tap the
City field and enter the city details. Repeat these steps to add further address details. Scroll
down and repeat these steps to add Organisation details. To add further details, tap More.
Repeat the above steps to add further detail. When you are finished, tap Done.
• To change your contact numbers to NZ country code +64, long press the "0/+" key, so '+'
appears, enter "64", and then remove the first 0 from the dialling code. The number will
read +64 27 123 4567 or +64 9 123 4567.
Using Favourites Contacts
To save time you can mark your frequently dialled contacts in your favourites and reduce time to search for them in your
contacts list:
• To add a contact to your Favourites' list, tap the Phone icon. Tap the Contacts tab. Scroll to and tap the contact you wish to add
as a favourite. Tap the Favourites icon (star) on the top right so it turns green.
• To call a person from your Favourites' list, from the Home screen tap the Phone icon. Tap the Favourites tab. Tap the Call icon
next to the desired contact's name.
Using Messaging - Text, Voicemail and Email
To send a text message:
• From the Home screen, tap the Messaging icon. Tap New message. In the To field, enter your contact's phone number – if
prompted scroll to and tap the contact's details already saved to the Phone/Sim. Tap the Type to compose field and enter
the message. When you are finished, tap Send.
• To insert an attachment, tap the Menu key. Tap Attach. Tap the desired attachment type i.e. Pictures. Tap the desired
folder where the attachment is located i.e. Camera. Tap the desired image. When you are finished, tap Send MMS.
To check your voicemail:
• From the Home screen, tap the Phone icon. Long press the 1/
• A personal greeting makes all the difference and means people are more likely to leave a message. Here is an example of
a personal greeting anyone can use: Hi, this is <your name>. I'm not available right now, but if you leave your name,
number and a brief message I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
To set-up an Exchange email account on your mobile:
• From the Home screen, tap the All apps icon. Tap Email. In the Email address field, enter your Exchange email address.
