NEW FUNCTIONS

The MARK III series adds the following new functions.

1. CD-ROM drive (full-function models only)

No longer limited to floppy-disk capacity, these models can now make use of CD-provided software
("PianoSoft-PlusAudio"), significantly expanding the playback possibilities.
Floppy-based ensemble software ("Piano Soft Plus") uses MIDI data to store both ensemble and
piano ensemble parts. For playback, all ensemble parts are generated by the internal XG tone generator,
while the piano part is reproduced using either the acoustic piano or the internal piano generator.
CD-based ensemble software ("PianoSoft-PlusAudio"), however, stores all non-piano parts as audio
data. For playback, these parts are played back as standard audio in time with the piano part, which is
played using either the acoustic piano or the internal piano generator. This makes it possible, for exam-
ple, to include vocal accompaniment, significantly enriching the playback opportunities.
The CD-ROM drive can also be used to play conventional audio CDs.

For information about how to operate the drive, please refer to the owner's manual.

2. Expanded memory and programs (all models)

The new DKC55 or DKC55RCD controller provides 16MB of recording flash memory. The controller
adds new functions as follows.
Each model includes 16 built-in "memory disks" (disks 0 to F). The user can record (copy) to each
disk independently, and can set up various types of automated playback sequences as indicated below.
Note: Users are free to copy copy-protected songs from commercial disc media into the internal
memory disks, but cannot recopy or dub the protected data to floppy disk.
Chain Play: Set up arbitrary "groups" of memory disks, then play back automatically in sequence
from any selected group. (Define up to 10 groups.)
Repeat ALL: Repeat all songs in the selected group.
RPT:
Repeat a single song.
RND:
Play songs in group in random order.
Timer Play: Set playback to start/stop automatically at specified times. Set up to 99 "Time + Group
+ Play-Start/Stop" combinations.
The above settings are entered through the Setup menu. To open the menu, hold down the [FUNC] key
and press the [STANDBY/ON] key.

3. SmartKey System (on full-function models only)

The SmartKey™ system is an implementation Yamaha's patented Guide system technology. The feature
works together with SmartKey software to help users learn simple melodies without having to read
music. Specifically, the software partially depresses the key that should be played next, so that the user
can see which key to hit. It then waits for the user to hit the key before moving on to the next note. If the
user does not respond with the correct key press within a given time, the software depresses the key again.
Playing the SmartKey Demo
Memory disk 0 includes two demonstration pieces: "Opening" and "SmartKey Demo." The latter piece,
a shortened version of the song "Aura Lee," is designed specifically to demonstrate the SmartKey system.
