About BlackBerry Media Sync

If your BlackBerry® device is running BlackBerry® Device Software version 4.2 or later and you have a media card inserted in your device
or your device includes on-board device memory, you can use BlackBerry® Media Sync to synchronize your music playlists from your
iTunes® library on your computer to your device. You can also synchronize your podcasts and other audio files from your iTunes library to
your device if those files are part of a playlist.
BlackBerry Media Sync supports the following audio file types: .wav, .wma, .mp3, .aac, and .m4a. Audio files that contain digital rights
management (DRM) technologies are not supported.
BlackBerry Media Sync is compatible with 32-bit editions of Windows® XP SP2 and 32-bit editions of Windows Vista™.

Set up BlackBerry Media Sync

The first time that you use BlackBerry® Media Sync, you are prompted to complete the following information. You can change these
settings at any time from the Options menu.
1.
Connect your BlackBerry device to your computer.
2. On your computer, on the taskbar, click Start > Programs > BlackBerry > BlackBerry Media Sync.
3. In the Name your device field, type a personalized name for your device.
4. If your device includes on-board device memory and you want to save your songs to this memory type instead of a media card, in the
Music Location drop-down list, click Device Memory.
5. In the Keep this amount of memory free field, specify the amount of memory that you want to keep free for files other than music
files.
6. Click OK.

Synchronize your playlists and songs from your computer to your device

To perform this task, in your BlackBerry® device options, mass storage mode must be turned on. For more information about mass storage
mode, click Help on your device.
You can synchronize specific iTunes® playlists to your device or a random selection of your iTunes songs that are not in a playlist. The
number of your iTunes songs and playlists that you can synchronize depends on the amount of memory on your media card or on-board
device memory that is available for storing music files.
1.
Connect your device to your computer. Keep your device connected until you have completed step 5.
2. On your computer, on the taskbar, click Start > Programs > BlackBerry > BlackBerry Media Sync.
3. Perform one of the following actions:
• To synchronize specific playlists, click the arrow icon beside Show iTunes Playlists. Select the check box beside one or more
playlists.
• To synchronize a random selection of your songs that are not in a playlist, click Automatically fill free space. These songs appear
in the Autofill Tracks playlist in the media application on your device.
