Description
You can configure the BlackBerry Enterprise Server to send notification messages to users'
BlackBerry devices when the BlackBerry Messaging Agent cannot retrieve email messages from the
messaging server. The notification messages instruct users to check the email applications on their
computers for the email messages. By default this feature is turned off and notification messages are
not sent to the users' BlackBerry device.
1. In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise
Server\GroupWise, create a DWORD value that is named SendByPassedMessageNotifications.
2. Double-click the new DWORD value.
3. In the Value data field, type 1.
To turn off this feature, set the value of SendByPassedMessageNotifications to 0.
By default, the BlackBerry Messaging Agent tries to retrieve a message from the messaging server
up to 5 times. If you want to change the number of times that the BlackBerry Messaging Agent tries
to retrieve a message, perform the following task:
1. In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise
Server\GroupWise, create a DWORD value that is named MaxFailedMessageRetry.
2. Double-click the new DWORD value.
3. In the Value data field, type the number of times that you want the BlackBerry Messaging Agent
to try to retrieve a message from the messaging server before the BlackBerry Enterprise Server
sends a notification to the user's BlackBerry device. The BlackBerry Enterprise Server will only
send a notification if the feature is turned on. By default, users' will not get a message indicating
that a failure has occurred on their device.
Note: If you increase the MaxFailedMessageRetry value, the BlackBerry Messaging Agent tries to
retrieve messages that it previously failed to retrieve until the new threshold is reached for all failed
messages.
In previous versions of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, if the BlackBerry Messaging Agent was
restarted while users' mail accounts and calendars were being reconciled between their email
applications and their BlackBerry devices, the reconciliation started again for each user.
In BlackBerry Enterprise Server version 4.1 SP6, if the BlackBerry Messaging Agent is restarted while
users' mail accounts and calendars are being reconciled between their email applications and their
BlackBerry devices and occurs within one hour of the shutdown, the reconciliation will start again for
each user. If the BlackBerry Messaging Agent is not restarted within one hour of the shutdown,
reconciliation for each user does not start again until the appointed time, if that time is at least 12
hours from the initial reconciliation start.
You can configure how many days to keep messages that are stored in the MbMailSync table in the
BlackBerry Configuration Database. By default, messages are stored in the MbMailSync table in the
BlackBerry Configuration Database for 90 days.
1. In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise
Server\Database, create a DWORD value that is named MbMailSyncPrune.
2. Double-click the new DWORD value.
3. In the Value data field, type the number of days to keep messages in the MbMailSync table. Any
messages older than this number of days are deleted from the MbMailSync table.
If you set the value to 7 or less, this feature is turned off.
You can specify a delay (in hours) when using the Erase Data And Disable Handheld IT
administration command over the wireless network. This change applies to BlackBerry Device
Software version 4.5 or later.
The remote password reset cryptographic protocol is designed to allow you to set the BlackBerry
device password remotely, even if content protection is enabled on the BlackBerry device. This
change applies to BlackBerry Device Software version 4.3 or later.
You can use the Weak Digest Algorithms IT policy rule to specify algorithms that BlackBerry devices
consider weak. This IT policy rule can be applied to BlackBerry devices running BlackBerry Device
Software version 4.3 or later.
The BlackBerry Enterprise Server uses the list of weak digest algorithms when verifying that the
certificate chains for the certificates that BlackBerry devices use with the SSL protocol over
connections to external web servers are strong enough.
BlackBerry devices use the list of weak digest algorithms when verifying that the digital signatures
on messages that BlackBerry devices receive are not generated using a weak hash digest. BlackBerry
devices use the list of weak digest algorithms when verifying that the certificate chains for the
certificates used to sign messages that BlackBerry devices receive do not contain hashes generated
using a weak digest.
