8. General Information
The DSU 8 signal converter is a component of the Dupline installation system and is
able to convert up to eight voltage signals for transmission on the Dupline bus.
The inputs are each suitable for DC voltage from 20 V to 300 V or AC voltages from
20 V to 250 V at 50 Hz; there is no need to observe a specific polarity. In addition, they
can be operated simultaneously. The operation with input signals with different protec-
tive classes is permitted with limitations (see next chapter).
With proper installation, the DSU 8 complies with the regulations for protective low volt-
age between input signals and power supply respectively the Dupline signal voltage.
The green LED on the front indicates the proper functioning of the Dupline bus, the red
LEDs the signal state of the inputs.
9. Important Notes in Advance
In order to protect both life and components, please observe the following safety in-
structions:
• Installation may only be carried out by authorised, trained technicians.
• The connections for power supply and the Dupline signal conductors are suitable
solely for voltages which fulfil the regulations governing protective low-voltage (see
VDE 0100, Part 410, or EN 50090-9-1). The input voltages may carry mains voltage
potential and are galvanically saftety-separated internally from the Dupline signal
voltage as well as from the power supply.
Merging protective low-voltage and potentials which may compromise human life
(e.g. mains line) at input signals are allowed only if - at least - the requirements of
the regulations mentioned above have been observed during installation. At least,
this demands one free input between those signals.
• The inputs are not suited for conversion of dimmed line voltages, e.g. from dimmer
outputs with AC modulation or phase angle control.
10. Coding
With the hand encoder DHK 1 each channel can be assigned any address between A1
and P8 using the modular plug at the front of the DSU 8. The channel allocation is as
follows:
