PRESSURE RELIEF DEVICES 170SB, 170SC AND 170SD
Product description
The pressure relief device protects the transformer
against non-permissible increases in pressure.
Once a specific predetermined value of pressure has
been reached, the pressure relief device will open, reduce
the pressure, and reseal itself tightly after achieving the
required reduction in pressure.
WARNING
It is important to observe the limit values indicated on the
nameplate and in the manual before commissioning the device.
WARNING
The counter-plate preloads the spring assembly and is secured
with N.4 screws M8. Unscrew these screws is strictly forbidden:
Danger of injury!
The manumission of the screws determined the expiration of
the warranty and operating pressure value will be modified.
Installation
CAUTION
The operating and the installation requirements described in
this manual must be strictly following. If not, the device can be
damaged or a malfunction can occur.
CAUTION
The contact surface must be well leveled with a good degree of
roughness (Ra=3.2).
Remove all welding burrs to ensure that the welding seams of
the studs do not interfere with the housing flange holes (flange
slits).
During assembly it is advisable to apply grease on the gasket,
this securing correct seat and preventing its damaging during
fastening.
Apply tightening torque on all the nuts following a cross
sequence.
The pressure relief device can be installed horizontally or
vertically.
Please be sure to leave sufficient space above the valve
(min. 70mm / 2.75mm) so that the optical signaler can be
completely pressed out of the housing when the device is
tripping.

The pressure relief device has to be mounted on the pre-
ventively machined flange according the drawing (fig.1)
• n.6 nuts M16 UNI5588,
• n.6 grower washers Ø16 UNI1751,
• n.6 plane washers Ø16 UNI 6592
(fig. 2/2) (fig. 3/2) (fig. 4/2).
Screw the nuts with recommended torque (25 Nm /
18.4 Ft·Lbs).
During the valve mounting pay attention to insert the
O-Ring gasket included in the delivery (fig. 2/1) (fig. 3/1)
(fig. 4/1).
Bleeding of the valve
If installed vertically pay attention that the bleed screw
(fig.2/3) (fig.3/3) (fig. 4/3) will be placed in the highest
point.
In any case, both with horizontal and with vertical moun-
ting, is necessary to bleed the valve after the transformer
oil is filled.
Unscrew partly the bleed screw (fig.3/3), to allow to the
excess air to come out then screw the bleed screw
Closing of the valve
The pressure relief device 170SC duct cover (fig. 3/5) must
to be closed after the installation. Duct Cover (Fig. 3/6) has
to be installed using 4 screws with recommended torque (8
Nm / 5.9 Ft·Lbs).
CAUTION
The locking system (available only for type 170SC fig.3/7)
ensures safe transportation and must be removed before
powering up the transformer.
Max withstand pressure: 200 kPa
