WARNINGS AND CAUTIONS (CON'T)

SAFE TRANSFER

It is recommended that you work with a qualified healthcare professional
before attempting to transfer on your own. Ensure that the wheelchair is on a
smooth, stable, and level surface with wheel locks engaged before transfer-
ring. Position the wheelchair as close as possible to the seat you are trans-
ferring to. Rotate the front casters until they face fully forward. Ensure that
armrests are out of the way and remove or swing footrests out of the way if
possible. Do not stand on or apply weight to the footrest.
SEAT BELT RESTRAINTS
Belt restraints should be positioned securely so they make full contact
across the front of the body. Make sure they are not wrapped around or over
wheelchair components such as an armrest or wheel.
See figures 1 and 2 for correct and incorrect positioning of belt restraints.
PROPER POSITIONING OF BELT RESTRAINTS (Fig. 1)
IMPROPER POSITIONING OF BELT RESTRAINTS (Fig. 2)
Fig. 1
Fig. 2
Restraints should make direct
contact across the front of the
body and in the area where the
thigh and pelvis meet.
Do not allow belt restraints to
wrap around or over wheelchair
components as this will keep
them from fitting securely across
the body.
