Em50/Em50R/Em50 Solar
Introduction
Thank you for purchasing an Em50 series data logger. This data collection device
allows you to collect and store data from up to five sensors. The stored data can be
downloaded using the included USB cable or via radio to a base station (in case of
the Em50R). It is con-figured using either DataTrac
Packing List
Please check to make sure all listed items are present. If any item is missing or
damaged, please contact Decagon or your local distributor.

Em50 series data logger (Em50 or Em50R)
•
USB cable
•
Packet with 5 zip-ties and 5 AA alkaline batteries
•
Antenna (Em50R)
•
USB flashdrive with Software, driver and manual.
Note: The DataTrac3 or ECH2O Utility software and driver is required for
communication with the Em50 series data loggers. The software and driver must be installed
before using the Em50 (see the manual for software and driver installation instructions).
Turning on and Configuring the Em50
1. Install the 5 AA Alkaline batteries (included with shipment).
Note: Em50 Solar logger comes with batteries preinstalled. Remove battery pull-tab to
activate batteries. Use only NiMH (Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries with the Em50
Solar logger.
2. Press the silver reset button located above the batteries.
3. Connect the USB cable from your computer's USB port to the Em50's
COMM port.
4. Launch DataTrac 3, ECH2O Utility or ECH2O Utility Mobile software.
5. Select "Direct on COM..." from the "Connect via" dropdown menu.
6. Click on the Connect icon.
7. On the main menu, name the Em50 using a maximum of 8 characters (op-
tional).
8. Select the sensors you will be using in each port, as well as a measurement
interval.
9. If using a radio-enabled Em50R, set the Radio Channel (0 through
and Radio Subchannel (0 through 65534) to correspond with the
DataStation or Rm1 to which you will be broadcasting.
