Addressing
The system needs to be able to address every individual dome camera separately. This
is done by assigning a unique address to each camera in a daisy chain. The protocol con-
verter manages camera addressing for the multiplexer. Rotary selectors on the front pa-
nel of the converter are used to select an address area: two switches each are provided
for choosing a lower and an upper address; because hexadecimal coding is used, this
makes it possible to assign any address between 1 and 256.
A single protocol converter supports a block of up to 31 addresses. For this reason, the
values of the lower and upper address may not differ by more than 31. If a range greater
than this is selected, the unit will automatically change the upper address to: (value of the
lower address +31).
If it is desired to control more than 31 dome cameras, it will be necessary to cascade
several protocol converter. Assuming the first cascaded unit addresses 1 to 31 (i.e. lo-
wer address = 1), the subsequent unit will address cameras starting with 32 and so on.
If several protocol converters are cascaded together in a single system, the lower
addresses of consecutive units must differ by at least 31. If necessary, the protocol con-
verter assigns the upper addresses automatically.

Caution!
If you connect several protocol converters in a cascade, ensure that each
address is used only once. If an address is duplicated, your system may not
operate properly.
The two rotary selectors on the left are used to set the lower address, those on the right
are used for the upper address. The address is coded in hexadecimal (if you are unsure,
see the conversion table in the Annex, page 14).
Example 1: Twelve cameras in the system, using addresses 1 to 12
Selector 1 to position 0, selector 2 to position 1 (= address 1)
Selector 3 to position 0, selector 4 to position C (= address 12)
