Notes on types of load
All kinds of dishes in general domestic
use can be washed in the Miele dish-
washer. The particular properties of
some items however, should be kept
in mind.
When purchasing new dishes, make
sure they are dishwasher proof.
Cups, bowls
etc. with recessed
bottoms
hinder the drying process as the drops
of water which remain in the recesses
do not evaporate so quickly.
Dishes
with
colored
patterns
If the color is beneath a good glaze, it
can be considered permanent.
Painted dishes — over the glaze
Colors painted on over the glaze are
generally produced in a quality which,
bearing in mind the normal lifespan of
the article, can be regarded as per-
manent.
With frequent use, fading of some
delicate colors cannot always be en-
tirely avoided.
If you are not sure whether the colors
of a particular set of dishes are per-
manent, test wash one or two items
which are already damaged for about
4 weeks.
Aluminum
Aluminum
articles can suffer some
discoloration, as can silver cutlery
when
used
with
foods
containing
sulphur (@. g. eggs).
The discoloration on silver cutlery can
be removed easily with silver polish.
Hand-made or craft items
are often not suitable for machine
washing. The relatively high tempera-
tures may damage these articles.
Wood
Wood articles, e. g. cutting boards are
sensitive to intensive cleaning and
may warp or split.
Old knives
The blades and handles of old knives
may be glued together and therefore
should not be cleaned
in the dish-
washer as the glue may not be heat
resistant.
Plastic
Plastic articles may distort if they are
not heat resistant.
Only wash plastic articles known to be
heat
resistant
in a dishwasher,
in
which case use the top basket only.
When in doubt, wash by hand.
Glassware
It should be noted that some glass-
ware may not be suitable for automatic
dishwashers. With use, etching could
occur. We therefore recommend that,
where possible, glasses be washed in
the "China/Crystal"
or "Economy"
program.
The
danger
of damage
should be less in these programs.
Please ensure glasses are securely
loaded in the top basket and cannot
rattle against each
other. Glasses
should only be washed
in the top
basket.
If washed in the bottom basket, the
special glassware insert must be
used (available from the Miele Spares
Department).
Valuable glasses should be washed
by hand.
