Issue
QPM installed in a director, a cable move followed
by a port speed change under specific conditions
may cause an erroneous entry in the nameserver
for a disabled port. The sequence of events that
could cause this are: 1) a QPM is configured with
all port speeds set to burst mode 2) there are active
links on an odd number port (1 or 3) and on the
even number port that is not its corresponding sus-
tain mode port (2 or 0, respectively). 3) the link to
the odd numbered port (1 or 3) is moved to its cor-
responding sustain mode port (0 or 2, respectively)
4) the port speed for the other even numbered port
is changed to sustained mode 5) the entry for the
odd number port that was moved (disconnected)
may re-appear in the nameserver
In a FICON environment, if a connected device has
zero Buffer-Buffer (BB) credits, a PLOGI to that device
from other devices may fail unless the BB credits
recover.
If a switch has been managed with HAFM/EFCM
Management Style configured to FICON Manage-
ment Style, and the Prohibit Dynamic Connectivity
Matrix (PDCM) has been configured with Act-
ive=Saved disabled, and the HAFM/EFCM
Management Style is changed to Open Systems
Management Style, and the switch is power
cycled, when the switch power on reset is executed,
the PDCM configuration is set to the previously act-
ive configuration instead of the configuration of the
contained in the IPL file.
When replacing a port card module a configured
Preferred Path with a source port that is part of the
newly installed port card module is cleared, while
a configured Preferred Path with an exit port that is
part of the newly installed port card module is not
cleared.

Workaround
If this is issue is encountered, configure both the even
ports of the QPM card to sustained mode instead of
configuring only one.
Blocking and unblocking the switch port of the device
will allow the PLOGI to succeed.
If the switch has been configured as described, review
and modify the PDCM as needed after a power cycle.
If the Preferred Path entry is cleared when a port card
module is replaced, the Preferred Path must be re-
entered.
