Control Panel

The display on the Aficio 1515MF is a backlit

text and graphical LCD display (non–touch

screen) that is easy to read. Separate hard

keys for copy, print, scan and fax are clearly

labeled, and each is equipped with built-in

light emitting diodes (LEDs) that illuminate to

indicate which function is operational. When

the user changes modes (from copy to print,

for example), the display also changes to cor-

respond to the selected function. Advanced

features, including Duplex, Combine and Sort,

are all clearly labeled hard keys below the

control panel display. When one of these hard

keys is selected, the up/down keys allow users

to highlight their desired mode. Users then

press the OK hard key to make their selec-

tion. Users can also conveniently adjust the

image quality according to the type of original

by selecting either Text or Photo. In addition,

users can adjust the lightness or darkness of

the original. LEDs indicate the selected set-

tings. Further, LEDs and messages on the

display indicate errors and device status, i.e.,

load paper, add toner and misfeed.

The control panel has a few drawbacks, accord-

ing to BLI technicians. For example, there is no

dedicated key for selecting paper source, and

finding the selection through the display menus

is initially confusing. The four arrow keys locat-

ed to the right of the display are used to select

paper source. In addition, the display does not

offer a job queue. Although the main display

during a copy job indicates quantity and counts

up as sets are produced, it does not indicate the

number of pages in the copy job. During a print
