Halaman Cetak3. Floor Protector Requirements
AS/NZ2918 Section 3.3 states that if the heater is to be placed on or within 500mm of heat sensitive
materials in the floor, then a floor protector will be required. This floor protector shall extend under
the heater and not less than 300mm beyond the front of the fuel loading or ash removal openings.
The width of the floor protector shall be not less than the width of the appliance and shall extend
not less than 200mm from each side of the fuel loading or ash removal openings unless it forms an
abutment with a wall or heat shield at a lesser distance.
If the appliance is being installed directly onto a non-heat sensitive floor, an ash protector area to
the dimensions as drawing F/P 001 (below) is all that is required.
If the appliance is to be installed directly onto a heat sensitive floor an insulated floor protector will
be required to prevent excessive heat transference, and needs to meet the tested requirements
under AS/NZ 2918:2001. as detailed in drawing F/P 001 as below.

1. Construct a purpose made floor protector on site to the minimum dimensions as drawing
F/P 001 below. It must consist of a minimum of 20mm of Insulation board (Micore 160,
Supalux, Promatech H, Eterpan LD or product of similar thermal resistance) and tiles/slate or
similar non-combustible surface with sealed joints on the top surface to protect from
spillage of any hot ash/embers.
