TIMING TOOLS PSA/FIAT 1.4-1.6-2.0-2.2 DIESEL
BELT TENSIONING
1. The VS1210/02 and VS1210/03 Belt Tensioner Adjusters locate into the square drive on the tensioner so it
can be turned to release or apply tension to the timing belt. Two sizes are provided in this kit.
2. On DW10BTED4 engines, the belt tensioner does not have a square drive; it is adjusted using a standard Allen
key. Correct camshaft drive belt tension is achieved by ensuring the tensioner pointer aligns correctly with a notch
in the tensioner baseplate.
When releasing tension from the old belt, the tensioner has to be locked into its retracted position using VS125/
T5 Locking Pin.
Fitting New Belt / Tensioning Procedure
1. Ensure the engine is set and locked in its timing position, t the new camshaft drive belt to the crankshaft gear
and retain in place with the VS1210/04 Belt Clip. Fit belt in an anti-clockwise direction to the tensioner roller,
injection pump sprocket, camshaft sprocket, water pump and tensioner. Once the timing belt is in position, remove
VS1210/04 Belt Clip.
2. Use VS1210/02 or VS1210/03 Tensioner Adjuster to apply an initial tension to the belt. Attach the required
Tension adjuster and turn the tensioner anti-clockwise to achieve correct belt tension.
Note: Check that the 3 securing bolts of the adjustable camshaft sprocket are not at the end of their slotted holes.
Tighten the securing bolts to their speci ed torque.
3. Remove all tooling and turn the engine over, by hand, through ten revolutions in the normal direction of rotation,
returning it to its timing position.
4. Re- t the Setting and Locking Tools to con rm the timing is correct. If it is not possible to locate the tooling
correctly, it will be necessary to carry out the timing/tensioning procedure again.
WARNING! Never turn the crankshaft in the opposite direction.
