4. SYSTEM CONSIDERATIONS (continued)
4.10 HYDRAULIC CONDUCT - ABILITY TO HANDLE
PEAK HYDRAULIC PRESSURE (WATER HAM-
MER AND THERMAL EXPANSION SOURCES)
The DMX is designed to be installed on the suction side of
the pump where it would only be subject to a pressure
equivalent to the static head of the fluid in the supply tank.
The piping system must be designed to insure that no
pressure spikes due to water hammer spikes or thermal
expansion of trapped liquid may occur inside the DMX.

DMX IV
The maximum pressure capability guaranteed for DMX
without leakage is 45 PSI (3.1 bar). However, for system
design consideration, the system must be designed so
that in normal operating conditions (fast closing of nozz-
le, thermal expansion of the liquid trapped in the sys-
tem), the maximum pressure inside the DMX remains
below 30 PSI (2 bar).
In systems that do not eliminate pressure spikes or pres-
sure increase due to thermal expansion risks, a spare
volume of air must be trapped in a dedicated area (here-
after called expansion tank) to compress in whenever
there is a pressure spike or thermal expansion of trapped
liquid. The compression of air trapped in the expansion
tank will limit the maximum pressure inside DMX to an
acceptable level, see DMX IOM for details.
