Installation must be made by qualified service personnel, and must meet all local codes.
Following the wiring diagram on the back of this page;
1.
Make connections by stripping the wire insulation back about 3/16". Twist any loose strands tightly.
2.
Insert wire ends into connectors and tighten screws.
3.
Check for any loose strands that might cause a short circuit. Make sure the metal part of
the screw connector engages the bare wire, NOT the insulation.
4.
Install the control in its operating location.
The DBI allows the homeowner to speak with a visitor through the VCPage Audio Communication System.
A touch and hold of the lighted switch on the DBI will mute the whole house audio system and trigger the home's existing
doorbell to sound. For homes without a doorbell or, for chimes in addition to an existing doorbell system, the VCPage-DBI-C
will emit a self-generating chime through the audio system's speakers.
Releasing the button will return the speakers in the home back to their previous state (listening to music or muted - see the
VCMute / VCPage manual for specifications on this system).
An answer to the DBI can be made via any VCPage plate inside the home. The person at the door is then able to speak back
and forth with the homeowner via the lighted switch now acting as a push to talk button. After 30 seconds of no activity
(conversation from inside or outside the home), the DBI will revert back to a doorbell function.
NOTE: The two-way conversation between the front door and the person answering will be broadcast through all VCMutes in
the system. The return answer made through the VCPage is a real time announcement into the system (also heard through all
VCMutes). In order to avoid the potential of a feedback loop, the room the answer is made from WILL NOT hear their
announcements*. Instead, whatever input amplified by the audio amplifier (i.e. the CD player or radio) will come through the
speakers over the duration of the answer.
* It is possible to answer the doorbell when the audio amplifier is completely turned off, however, the real time answer WILL
sound into the room the answer originated from. Spacing and distance of speakers in relationship to the VCMute / VCPage is
critically important in this instance in order to avoid the possibility of feedback loops.
