ACCESS TO CLEANING
Periodically, the evaporator coil, condenser coil, air-to-air heat exchanger, drain pan and drain
tube will need to be cleaned. The frequency of cleaning is indeterminate and depends on how
often the equipment is used and how dirty the operating environment has been.
The front and side panel is one large L-shaped piece which, when removed, gives access to the
internal compartments for cleaning.
To Obtain Access for Cleaning:
WARNING: UNPLUG THE UNIT FROM THE POWER SUPPLY BEFORE REMOVING ANY
COVERS. FAILURE TO DO SO COULD RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY OR DEATH.
•
Remove the front/right side panel
•
Remove the four screws holding the Air-to-Air-Heat Exchanger Cover Plate in place (see
Fig. 1) and then remove the Cover Plate.
•
Open the top panel and remove the air filter – you should now be able to see the plates
of the plastic Air-to-Air-Heat Exchanger from above.
•
Force a finger between the Heat Exchanger plates, somewhere in the middle of the Heat
Exchanger. Push the Heat Exchanger sideways to start removing it from its cavity. Once
enough plates start protruding out the side of the casing, grab hold of the Heat
Exchanger and pull it completely out of the unit. For cleaning, the Heat Exchanger can
be immersed in mild soapy water and then rinsed well.
•
With the Heat Exchanger removed, full access is available to clean the fins of the
aluminum evaporator and condenser coils. The dirtiest surfaces to be cleaned will be on
the air-entering sides. Vacuuming with a brush should be effective at removing the
debris; if not, contact qualified service personnel if more aggressive cleaning is required.
•
There is also full access to clean the Drain Pan, Drain Spout, and Drain Hose.
•
Once complete, ensure that the Air-to-Air-Heat Exchanger is carefully aligned on the 4
rails and is fully inserted into the cavity with the large arrow marking on its side pointing
"UP".
•
Re-install the Cover Plate and the front/right side panel. Be careful not to over-tighten
and strip the screws. If a screw strips, replace it with one similar, but the next number
size up.
Caution: Poor performance will result if the arrow on the side of the Air-to-Air-Heat
Exchanger is not pointing "UP" when it's re-inserted in the slide rail cavity.
