Allied Telesis AT-8948 Manuale supplementare
At the KCDC's Operations Depot in Fytfield Place, and at
their main site in Rimu Rd, AT-8948 switches were chosen
for their OSPF routemap capabilities, to support a network
design allowing for automatic failover of both voice and data
traffic in the event of either network failing. A multi-Iayer
IPv4 and IPv6 Switch, the AT-8948 offers performance,
flexibility, and reliability. Packaged in a compact 1RU standard
rack mount chassis, the AT-8948 is a highly featured access
solution incorporating a new generation switching core for
wire-speed layer 3 IPv4 and IPv6 routing, exceptional Quality
of Service (QoS) features, and a robust hardware design
with hot-swappable dual power supplies.
AT-8848 switches were installed at the EOC, in the
communications room on top of the Paraparaumu water
reservoir, and at the Waikanae and Otkai offices. The AT-
8800 series Intelligent Workgroup Switches deliver high
performance switching in a compact 1RU form factor.
Available with either 24 or 48 10/100 Fast Ethernet ports,
both models offer full wirespeed switching and IP routing
across all layers, with two optional gigabit Ethernet uplink
ports and redundant power supply.
Benefits of the New Solution
Automatic failover
Using the high end Layer 3 AT-8948 switches, which are
capable of OSPF routemaps, the new Allied Telesis dynamic
routing solution provides the KCDC with the automatic
failover they required to ensure continued voice and data
communication, even if one part of the network fails. Now,
both the frame relay and wireless networks can handle all
traffic, if either network experiences a failure.
The KCDC now also has the ability to perform maintenance
and upgrades on a particular link, either wireless or frame
relay, and network connectivity will still continue via the
other link.

Reliability
The KCDC now has a highly reliable network that is
extremely fault tolerant - imperative for maintaining
communications during any natural disaster or civil
emergency situation. With automatic failover now in place
between the voice and data networks, the council are
assured of both voice and data connectivity, even in the
most adverse circumstances.
The key AT-8900 series switches have a robust hardware
design incorporating dual hot-swappable power supplies
providing maximum network uptime, and have a wide
ambient temperature operating range of 0 - 50 degrees,
providing a dependable network infrastructure.
Improved efficiency
The design of the network provides the greatest
performance, with separate feeds into most council sites for
Internet access, council data traffic and voice traffic. This is
complemented with backup for critical data and voice calls,
provided with the implemented automatic network failover.
Manageability
The Allied Telesis switches and routers used in the KCDC
network upgrade all share the same AlliedWare command
line interface, facilitating simplified management for network
administration staff.
Balanced and scalable
Although maintaining connectivity in emergency situations
was the primary goal, the new network design also had to
support the KCDC's normal day-to-day business in an
efficient, cost effective manner. The new network solution
implemented by Allied Telesis carefully balanced the required
redundancy with the associated cost, in order to arrive at a
scalable solution.
