tuned to this same frequency, No attempt should be made to increase
the length of antenna or battery voltage as this may result in exceeding
the F.C.C. authorized limit of 100 milliwatts input for unlicensed
transmitters, The battery supplied with this unit is a standard 9 volt
006P type, Radio Shack stock No. 23-464, Equivalent batteries are
Burgess 2U6, Eveready 216, R.C.A. VS312, Rayovac 1604.
Battery Installation
Remove the battery cover by using a coin edge in the slot in the bottom
of the case. Snap the battery connector onto the battery and place it
in position. Replace the case back.
.
To Operate
Extend the antenna to its full length. Rotate on/off switch down. You
will hear a hissing sound, indicating that the receiver is working. Any
station within receiving range which
is transmitting on channel 14
should be heard.
To Transmit
Press the push-to-talk button, hold the unit about three inches from
your mouth and talk in a normal voice into' the front of the unit.
Holding the unit too close or talking too loudly may cause the signal
to become distorted and hard to understand.
You can lock in the transmit function by pressing the push-to-talk
button in and upwards, This will aid in long periods of transmission.
To release, press downwards,
To Receive
Release pressure on switch button and listen.
There are many factors, such as terrain, height above ground, local re-
ceiving conditions, etc., that affect the distance range obtainable. For
maximum range, make sure that the battery used is at full strength and
antenna is extended to its full length.
Often changing your location
even slightly can affect reception and transmission quite a bit. This is
because trees, buildings, electrical equipment and bodies of water all
have their effect-on radio signals.
