Installation and Operating Manual
for two-/four-pole residual current circuit-breakers
General
In order to avoid personal injury and damage to property, the operating manual must
be read carefully before using the residual current circuit-breaker. The manual must
also be retained for future reference. Installation may only be carried out by an au-
thorised specialist, who is familiar with the relevant national installation regulations.
Intended use and mounting
For snapping onto mounting rail and for installation in distributions board with cor-
responding device covers, to prevent contact with dangerous active parts.
Electrical connection
Guide phase and outer cables (L1, L2 and L3) as well as the neutral conductor (MP/N)
through the switch. Energy may flow in either direction, i. e. the mains or consumer
unit may be connected to the upper or lower terminal block. To ensure that the in-
stalled testing facility functions correctly, for two-pole connection four-pole devices,
the terminals must be used in accordance with the wiring diagram. Scrape and grease
aluminium conductors immediately before connection.

Testing and functional check
The testing of all safety measures on commissioning must be carried out according to
the information in the valid national installation regulations. A functional inspection
of the residual current circuit-breaker itself is possible with connected mains voltage
by pressing the test button T and, as in commercial use (BGV A3), should be carried
out at least every six months in the case of stationary systems and should be repeated
every working day in the case of non-stationary systems. After tripping by pressing
the test button or a system-specific residual current, the toggle of the residual current
circuit-breaker is located in the middle position '+'. Resetting to position 'I' is only pos-
sible if the toggle has firstly been moved to position '0'. The operating display beneath
the toggle indicates the status of the switching contacts. If the switching contacts are
closed, the display is red and it is green if the switching mechanism is open.

Application instructions and warnings
The following notes and warnings must be observed in order to ensure safe opera-
tion:
1. Without any additional protective housing, the residual current circuit-breaker
should only be stored and operated in a dry, low-dust environment. Aggressive
atmospheres must also be avoided.
2. The user must be made aware of repeat testing using the test button T.
3. Using surge current strength residual current circuit-breakers cannot absolutely
guarantee to rule out trips due to leakage currents caused by surge voltage. In
cases where an interruption of the power supply may lead to potential dangers for
humans and animals or serious damage to property, residual current protection
should be implemented by means of increased surge current strength, selective
residual current circuit-breakers and upstream surge arresters. In specific cases,
the switching status should be monitored by means of an auxiliary contactor at
two-pole / four-pole
the residual current circuit-breaker and an appropriate signalling device.
4. Please be aware that the short-circuit back-up fuse (SCPD) does not ensure any
1.5 mm² – 50 mm²
thermal overload protection. Thermal overloading must be ruled out as a matter
1.5 mm² – 35 mm²
of priority by means of thorough project planning or using the specified thermal
2.5... 3 Nm
back-up fuse (OCPD).
5. When working on electrical systems, this fuse must always be activated and the
safety rules must be observed. Should there unexpectedly be any contact with
active parts, a doctor must be called immediately.
6. Disposal is subject to the statutory regulations of the European Union
(WEEE/German Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act).
7. Opening the device or removing the safety seal will invalidate the warranty.
Notes for users
1. The test button 'T' must be used regularly to check the function of the residual
current circuit-breaker. This should be carried out at least every six months in the
case of stationary systems and should be repeated every working day in the case
of non-stationary systems (BGV A3).
2. Recurrent testing of the protective measures must be carried out at regular inter-
vals by an authorised specialist (BGV A3).
3. After tripping by pressing the test button or a system-specific residual current,
the toggle of the residual current circuit-breaker is located in the middle position
'+'. Resetting to position 'I' is only possible if the toggle has firstly been moved
to position '0'.

5. If any damage to the housing is identified, an authorised specialist must be con-

6. Disposal must be performed by an authorised specialist and is subject to the

statutory regulations of the European Union (WEEE / German Electrical and Elec-
tronic Equipment Act).
