LBA2030 L BAND AMPLIFIER / LNB POWER INSERTER
The LBA2030 is an L band amplifier that is designed to amplify
and level the L band range of 950 to 2250 MHz that is used in
Direct Broadcast Satellite reception applications. The full
coverage allows use with installations incorporating 'stacked'
type LNBs - one polarity output from 950 to 1450 MHz and the
other polarity output over a higher 500 MHz segment such as
1550 to 2050 MHz. or 1650 – 2150 MHz.
The LBA2030 has a built in LNB power inserter that will supply
18 VDC to the LNB input connector for powering the LNB. LNB
power is not passed through from the receiver (either output).
The LBA2030 provides two output ports, one where each
transponder is leveled to approximately -20 dBm and one where
each transponder is leveled to -30 dBm. These levels are
provided when the input contains a full set of 32 transponders. If
there are fewer transponders present, the output of an individual
transponder will be somewhat higher but the output will provide
the same total power when all transponders in the input range
are summed.

The LBA2030 requires an input level of approximately -50
dBm (each of 32 transponders) in order to AGC the outputs to
the -20 dBm and -30 dBm levels. Input levels below -50 dBm
will cause the output levels to drop by a corresponding
amount.
The -20 dBm output provides plenty of signal level for
situations where this output will be split through several
layers of passive splitters to feed multiple receivers.
The -30 dBm output provides the ideal level for connection to the
Drake LBS2250 ten output switch. The LBS2250 has a 5 dB level
drop from input to each transcoder output, providing a healthy -
35 dBm to each transcoder or receiver.
The LBA 2030 provides a gentle slope compensation to compen-
sate for increased coaxial cable losses in the system at higher
frequencies. The rated output levels are specified for the high
end of the frequency range and drop by 4 to 5 dB at 950 MHz.
