F. Tip disengages from retaining head
Possible Cause
1. Worn retaining head
2. Improper tip installation
G. Erratic arc
Possible Cause
1. Worn contact tip
2. Buildup inside of liner
3. Wrong tip size
4. Incorrect welding parameters
H. Excess spatter
Possible Cause
1. Improper machine parameters
2. Incorrect tip or installation
3. Incorrect nozzle or shielding
4. Contaminated wire or work piece
I. Discolored Liner
Possible Cause
1. Short circuit to electrode
2. Cuts in outer jacket, copper exposed

Possible Solution

Adjust nozzle / tip relationship.
Adjust torch to base metal relationship.
Repair all cables and connectors.
Possible Solution
Replace tip and/or retaining head.
Finger tighten then slightly tighten with correct tool.
Possible Solution
Replace.
Replace liner, check condition of electrode.
Replace with correct tip size.
Use wire manufacturers parameters.
Possible Solution
Adjust parameters.
Adjust nozzle / tip relationship.
Use correct nozzle and shielding gas coverage.
Replace wire and clean work piece.
Possible Solution
Check for wire short circuiting in feeder
Replace gun.
