D. ASSEMBLY
1. Expand the paper lantern gently as in the diagram.
2. Carefully insert the expander through the big hole with 2 eyelets.
3. Carefully insert the expander slots (convex points) in the eyelets. You may gently bend the
expander so that it can fit into the slot. This will fix the lantern in shape. Do this one by
one to avoid breaking the lantern's paper. Ask for an adult's assistance if needed.

E. PAINTING
Use a pencil to draft the design on the lantern surface before
applying the paint. Be reminded that the pencil tip may
break the lantern. Design using your own imagination or refer
to the illustration as shown on the package. You may also
use your own paint at home to create more colour designs.
Please also refer to the painting tips below.
Caution: When paint is applied on the lantern surface, the
water will soak through the lantern surface. The lantern
paper will break easily when it is still wet. Thus, it is
recommended that you do not dilute the paint with too much water and avoid applying too
much paint at one time when painting the lantern. Wait for the first layer to dry before
applying the second one. If the lantern is broken accidentally, you could use stationery
adhesive tape or tissue paper to repair it.
PAINTING TIPS
Follow the colour mixing guide below to produce more colours. Some of the following guides
may not apply to your kit if the required colours are not included.
Green = Yellow + Blue, Orange = Yellow + Red, Purple = Blue + Red, Pink = Red +
White,Lime Green = Yellow + a little Blue, Turquoise = Blue + White + a little Yellow, Brown
= Red + Yellow + a little Black, Sky Blue = Blue + White
Mix the colours with White and Black to make them look lighter or darker respectively. Do
not mix too many colours together as it will make the final colour look muddy. For best
results, apply more than one layer of paint but wait until the first layer is dry before applying
a second coat. It is always easier to paint a darker colour on a lighter colour background than
the reverse. Always wash your paint brush before mixing or applying a new colour. Prepare a
small cup of water for this purpose. It is also a good idea to use a mixing tray for mixing
paints. Close the pot lids tightly to prevent the paint from drying up. If the paint becomes
dry, dilute it with a few drops of water. You may also add a small drop of dishwashing
detergent to the paint and mix it. This will help the paint adhere to the surface better.
